Because I couldn’t come up with a title that wasn’t lame.

Here’s another slightly older one, from around the same time I did the art in the previous post. I was trying to play around with using bolder colors, and I’m pretty happy with how this one came out. I tend to lean towards a muted palette in my artwork (because I like those colors), but I really love the use of more saturated color in a lot of art I’ve seen. I’d really like to be able to work with those colors a little more naturally.

I’ve been wanting to draw Fong and I-Pin (from Reborn) for a while. ‘Cause I-Pin’s adorable, and I think Fong might be my favorite Arcobaleno. I’d really like to get a print of all the Arcobaleno done before the next con season starts.

Paint Tool SAI again (of course).

I’ve really got to stop forgetting to post stuff after I finish it.

Rewatched Nodame Cantabile for about the third time a few months ago and painted this in SAI. Character is Mine (not mine, Mine Ryutaro) and he is awesome. Old art is old. More stuff coming soon; I want to clear the queue.

Does the yellow burn your eyes? Seriously, if it does, let me know. I don’t know if I calibrated my monitor correctly.

A doodle for Halloween. I haven’t gotten anything done in time for Halloween since 2004. That’s pretty sad!

Like literally, I had to come home and watch a couple of hours worth of happy movies before I could get rid of the heebie jeebies.

She was awesome enough to send me the entire Avatar series last month, and I’m up to the end of the first season now. It’s good! I probably don’t need to tell anyone that though, being so late to the series. Can I just say again how much I love Paint Tool SAI?

As far as programs go, I never got the knack of painting in Photoshop, and I don’t like Corel Painter all that much, for many reasons. openCanvas is pretty great, but I just love the quality of the brushes and tools in SAI. It’s taken a while for me to get comfortable with using it, but after finding brush settings that worked well, I’m completely in love. And now all I want to do is paint.

I’ve been practicing in that program a lot lately, and having a good time with it. I’ve never really been happy with my painting abilities, digitally or otherwise, so I figure the only way I’m going to get any better at it is to actually do it more often. So here’s a random mohawk guy.

This is technically my first submission for Illustration Friday. Just a quickie.

The theme was “Frozen”, so I figured it’d be fun to draw my interpretation of Jack Frost. And on a related note, it’s been freezing here in New York lately. Time to break out the Totes!

Ever since I started drawing my characters again, I CAN’T STOP. Drunk!Jeremy and Max busting a gut over something dumb (although I think Max is really laughing out of crippling fear and discomfort). Jeremy is scary sometimes.

I stumbled across Illustration Friday a while ago, which is an awesome site. Every Friday, they put up a new drawing theme and you have a week to illustrate the concept. I’ve been looking for a community like that for a while, but many of the ones I found were pretty inactive. This one seems to be jumping, and the themes seem like a lot of fun. I’m going to try to participate as often as possible, or at least when the theme inspires me!

About a month ago, their theme was “Welcome”, and what immediately came to mind was this Japanese supermarket called Sunrise Mart that I frequent sometimes in the city. Whenever you enter the store, whoever sees you come in will greet you with a hearty “Irrashaimase!!” (welcome). Usually it’s the girls who are working the counter, but once I happened to walk in during a lull in business and a whole bunch of the employees were hanging out by the entrance. So I got a really big welcome that day, like big enough to knock your face off.

So here’s my first entry (even though I didn’t finish this one in time, but hell, I’m posting it anyway). openCanvas 4 for lines, Photoshop for (rushed) coloring job.
